“Did you see what happened?”

There was a car accident on the street outside your house. You go out to look at it & ask a neighbor who was standing there:

Did you see what happened?

see (relative clause)    

You can ask all kinds of different questions with relative clauses:

Can you see what they're doing?

Did you see where they went?

I didn't see how many there were.
