“Do you have any recommendations for a nice, balanced red?”

A nice, dry red you can recommend

You're at a wine store and looking for a good wine to serve to houseguests. You don't know much about buying wine, so you ask a store employee for a recommendation:

Do you have any recommendations for a nice, balanced red?

Do you have any recommendations?

This is a very useful phrase for when you're visiting foreign countries and want people to give you advice. You can use this in lots of situations. For example, at your hotel you can ask the person at the front desk:

Do you have any recommendations for where to eat?

At a restaurant, you can ask your waiter:

Do you have any recommendations?

a nice, (adjective) (something)

The word "nice" often appears with other positive adjectives in phrases like these:

a balanced wine

There's a lot of specialized vocabulary to talk about wine. Some people know a lot of these words, but most people only know a few major ones, like "balanced". A "balanced" wine is not too sweet, not to acidic, not too heavy, and so on. It has the right mixture of tastes.

a red

When you're talking about wine, you can refer to a red wine or white wine with just the words "a red" or "a white".
