“Don't tempt me!”
You're on a diet, but you have trouble sticking to it. Someone offers you a cookie. You want to eat it, but you know you shouldn't. You say:
Don't tempt me!
tempt (someone)
To "tempt" someone means to offer them something that they want, but probably shouldn't have. Examples of tempting someone include:
- offering them unhealthy food
- flirting with them even though they're already in a relationship
- offering them a job that pays more money although they're loyal to their current company
Don't tempt me!
You say this when someone offers you something tempting. It means "no", but it also shows that you want to say "yes".
This is useful sometimes. For example, imagine that your friend offers cookies that she made, but they don't look very good. By saying "don't tempt me", you can say "no" without making him feel bad about it.
