“I went out of my way to make sure you were comfortable.”

You invited your friend to a party where she didn't know anyone, and now she's complaining that you didn't talk to her enough. You feel like you spent a lot of time with her and are angry that she's complaining. You say:

I went out of my way to make sure you were comfortable.

go out of (one's) way to (do something)

This phrase means that you put extra effort into doing something that wasn't convenient for you, for the benefit of someone else. It's used to point out the extra things you did for someone when they're not acting appreciative (like in the example above).  It's also used to describe the nice things someone else did for you:

People were so helpful in Ubud; they went out of their way to help us find our way around.
