You can use this phrase to talk about which day of the week a holiday occurs on:

My birthday falls on a Saturday this year.

Sometimes when the Fourth of July falls on a Tuesday or Thursday we get an extra day off in addition to the holiday itself.

You can also say that the holiday "is falling on" a day of the week:

It looks like Halloween is falling on a Wednesday.
