go easy on (someone)

You can say this in a situation where someone is competing, being tested, or being punished. If someone is at a disadvantage for some reason, you can ask that they be tested less strictly, or that their competitor not play too aggressively.

I’ll go easy on her since it’s her first day.

Go easy on him. He didn’t know the rules.
